Understanding ASTHMA:

Asthma is a condition that affects the lungs and respiratory system. It presents itself as having spasms in the lungs, which makes it hard to breathe. This can be because of an allergic reaction. It causes your airways to narrow, swell, and can cause more mucus to form. Asthma makes it hard to breath and cause coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. A lot of times it really doesn’t affect someone, but other times it is very troublesome.

The symptoms vary from person to person but can include shortness of the breath, a tightness in the throat, wheezing, tightness of the chest, wheezing when exhaling, trouble sleeping, coughing, and any of these getting worse if the person has a respiratory illness such as cold or the flu. There are varying types of asthma. One is exercise in-duced, occupational, or allergy induced. Each of these has its own limitations for a person.

In order to treat asthma a doctor must diagnose a patient. Then make sure you are following the protocol set up for you. Some medication is to reduce the swelling of the airways, some are used immediately to open the airways, and some times allergy medication is given as well. Asthma is a condition that is not to be taken lightly and one that can get under control fairly well also. Make sure to follow all your doctors’ instructions when it comes to dealing with asthma.

I was diagnosed with asthma shortly after I was diagnosed with MS. It all came when I was in the hospital. I am now on asthma controlling medicines and inhalers. I use an inhaler twice a day and I have a rescue inhaler to use when I have an attack. My asthma is very well under control at the moment and for that I am thankful.
